On a rainy Saturday morning, 21 March 2026, more than 80 willing and compassionate volunteers gathered at Ligstad in Alberton North with one shared purpose: to serve our less fortunate brothers and sisters living on the streets with love, dignity, and the compassion of Christ.
To ensure that we reached the most vulnerable members of our community, special invitation tickets were thoughtfully created and distributed beforehand, inviting those in need to attend a project prepared especially for them.
From early that morning, our guests waited patiently at the Ligstad gate, eager to receive care and kindness. They were welcomed in small groups at a time and, after registration, each person was given access to services that many of us so easily take for granted.
They were treated to haircuts, provided with clean clothing, shoes, underwear, and socks, and offered the opportunity to enjoy a warm shower. They also received a basic medical check-up, and in one of the most moving moments of the day, our volunteers humbly washed their feet—a beautiful act of love, service, and restoration of dignity.
As the Passion in Action Band filled the atmosphere with uplifting music, our guests were nourished not only physically, but spiritually too. They received food for the body and encouragement for the soul. Ministry teams spent time ministering to our brothers and sisters, praying with them, listening to them, and reminding them that they are deeply seen, valued, and loved by God.
We had prepared to serve 150 people, but in His abundant grace, God had greater plans. By the end of the day, we had served an incredible 233 people. What seemed impossible in the planning became possible through the faithful provision of God. Once again, He reminded us that when we place what we have in His hands, He multiplies it beyond expectation. All glory belongs to God, our Great Provider. We extend our deepest gratitude to every volunteer who chose to spend part of their Saturday making the Street Shower Project a reality. Your willingness to serve brought warmth, dignity, hope, and the love of Christ to so many lives. A special word of thanks goes to the volunteers and partners from Ligstad, REM, Showers of Blessings, Addict Voice, Passion in Action, The Beehive Project, Sole to Sole, and the many other individuals and organisations who contributed their time, talents, resources, and hearts. This day was a beautiful reminder that the Church is at its best when it serves. “Whoever is kind to the poor lends to the Lord.” And for that reason, we will never stop singing His praises.
