Through our various initiatives and programs, we provide essential support and services to meet the specific needs of the community, ensuring a holistic approach to care and well-being.
Knowledge is power and such a high percentage of our community does not have access to training and knowledge that lead to a better quality of life. We strive to empower our community with knowledge to make better decisions in their relationships and in life in general. Through Ligstad’s partners we have access to skills training and opportunities we can connect community members to, should we not render a specific service they need.
Professional community development is a high priority in a community where lots of reactive service organisations function. Prevention is always better than the cure. By launching and establishing such programs the community become skilled and equipped to be in charge of their own destiny.

Communities who live in the same or similar circumstances, often deal with mutual emotional challenges. Group work is a very successful method in Social Work that addresses mutual problems in groups of people with shared experiences. Examples of these groups are, grief groups, trauma groups and support groups. Where a group is identified, we always look to offer groups as place to belong and heal emotionally.
It is true that no man is an island and it is ever so true for organisations serving the community. On our own we can do and achieve a little, but as a network of partners we can do so much more. This has been one of the core values of Ligstad since our establishment. Through our partnerships we reach the best outcomes for our community.

Ligstad aim to serve our community by means of the community members themselves. Each community member has unique qualities and skills that are crucial in empowering a successful community. Volunteers have always been and will always be at the centre of all our services. Volunteers from the community knows the specific needs, struggles and challenges that need to be overcome. They are our eyes, ears, hands and feet in the community.
We live in a broken world where individuals are traumatized by the second and this is a pattern that will not change as long as we are human. Unfortunately most individuals cannot afford the luxury of therapy and counselling. As an alternative they live with the trauma and never get healing. Ligstad strive to make counselling services available to the community of Alberton who cannot afford it. We continuously train lay-counsellors and form working relationships with therapists and counsellors in the community who can do this import work.

Ligstad is a beacon of light in a poverty ravished community. A place where the most vulnerable and sometimes the very lonely can come for some love, guidance and fellowship. It is also where the elderly can come to enjoy praise and worship as well as a chat and advice. To me it means an avenue where I can express my creative abilities and organisational skills during the Street Store and Street Shower projects. The venue is generously provided to hold the Lions Bright Sight clinic every couple of months. Ligstad also has a Preschool and Aftercare facility, which help to assists and uplifts the community further. You can be a part of the events as much or as little as you wish. You have the freedom to choice

I was introduced to GIG through a friend. What a warm welcome I received at my first meeting. Folk were friendly & made me feel very at home. I find that starting our time together with scripture & a message is so important – Alida & Peter are both amazing & I admire them so much. We have fun at our meetings & I have made some very special friends. What a wonderful ministry.
